Description

Escape from the Crazy Place, originally conveived by JJ Guest in 1984, is a collaborative work between about fifteen authors. In 2006 it was released online, described as an interactive round-robin novel. The novel works like a digital choose-your-own-adventure story, aided by hypertext and including familiar paratextual features like cover art and forwards by two of the authors, as well as a digital bookmark function. Released during the early adolescence of the internet, EftCP is a surrealist, post-modern piece of literature that uses its simple hypertext functionality to defy linear story structure while at times creating the illusion of an overarching narrative.
