Technician news page

Description

NC State's student newspaper, Technician, is an online-first publication. It used to be print-first, then cut printing costs again and again over the years until it now only runs only once per week. However, news doesn't only occur once per week; in order to keep the public informed, it must publish online. This is happening to news outlets all over the country; since the advent of the 24-hour news cycle, paper has become more and more obsolete.
One thing of note, however, is the use of a visual aid next to each and every article. Any piece published by Technician must be accompanied by a visual of some kind-- either a photo or computer-generated graphic-- or it won't run (with the exception of staff reports, which are breaking news with an immediate impact, like crimes on campus). This is never the case in print-first publications, which shows how news media have evolved to stay competitive in the digital sphere. In turn, this means every article that runs in print also has a visual, since it also runs online, which changes the format of the print paper completely. To accommodate this, Technician switched from a broadsheet to a tabloid format, as many papers have in recent years.
