Description
This photo is, to me, the quintessential depiction of contemporary society at the time it was taken. World War II had just ended and the US and the world was celebrating. This shows the pure joy that everyone felt upon the return of the soldiers who had survived that long. A solider cannot contain himself and just has to lay one on a woman in the middle of a parade, who looks to be dressed as a nurse (she may be one, I'm not sure of the complete history of this image). That adds another layer to this image as it shows how integral field nurses were to the war effort, as well. They are in the middle of a parade, and everyone in the background is smiling and looking, sharing in their joy.
