This photograph is from the 1950s in the United States. During this time period, the United States was in the middle of the Cold War with Russia. This sparked fear in society enabling schools to take extra precautions and conducting bomb drills. The children in the photo are in school uniforms and are crouched underneath their school desks. They are not in immediate danger, as the two children in the front are giving the photographer a smile. The two children in the back look uninterested, as this was a normal school day.
