Description

This is the Oculus in New York City. It is a transportation hub located between the World Trade Centers. I took this photo over winter break so you can see some Christmas decorations lining the balconies. The shape of this building is extremely interesting and from the outside it looks like the tail of a whale. On the inside, the ribs of the building make it look open and free along with the skylight symbolizing American freedom. This building sits next to the 9/11 Memorial and represents stillness paying respect to innocent American people who died there. At night you are able to see the glowing blue light more clearly which pays respect to the brave first responders who were lost trying to rescue these innocent Americans. The skylight represents the light continuously shining through after the darkness of the tragedy of 9/11. This building is also a shopping mall and is a station for the NYC Metro. The ribs of the building guide passengers of the metro underground to the platforms.
