Description

This is the Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom at Disney World. It's actually a restaurant that serves fantastic chicken nuggets, but that's not the most interesting aspect of the building. Walt Disney was enamored with the idea of nostalgia, and so he split his theme parks into distinct themed eras: Tomorrowland (the future), Adventureland, Liberty Square (Revolution-era America), Frontierland (the pioneer past), and Main Street USA (Victorian era). The Crystal Palace is located in the Main Street USA portion of the park and is an exact design replica of the building used to house all of the artifacts during the Great Exhibition, or the first ever World's Fair. It was called the Crystal Palace because the building was made up of all glass, which was incredibly modern for the Victorian era.

Disney theme parks are so interesting architecturally because all structures are new buildings disguised as old ones. They are used as props in the immersive storytelling experience Disney provides to its guests. Each building on the property has an interesting story behind it.
