Title
Prague Building
Subject
Post Modernist Building
Description
This is a building in Prague I saw when I went last summer. I believe this fits into the postmodernist category because of the nonfunctional adornments on the facade and the stacked roof. Postmodernism was a rebellion against the uniformity and "blandess" of the preceding Modern Architecture movement and that is seen in the shape and facade. The facade is textured and though the texture is uniform, it is clearly meant to be in opposition to the uniformity of Modern architecture. The building is not of uniform height, with the far left being several stories high, then as you go right it drops to a single story, and then on the far right goes back to two or three stories high. Similarly, the roofs of the taller sections of the building are tiered, almost like a "traditional" wedding cake.
