Postmodern Bank Building

Subject

A Postmodern building

Description

This is a bank building located in Cameron Village, a shopping center located in Raleigh, NC. The building is situated on the corner of a busy street.

It is a one-floor building with columns on the roof. In a post-modern style, it is an eclectic mix of building styles. The inset windows are rectangular, while surrounded by arches. It is a purposeful clash of styles. The columns on the roof echo earlier building styles, including greek revival homes that were common in the south. It is purely ornamental. As a result, it is somewhat controversial, with friends commenting that it is unattractive, simply because it appears to be unfinished. But that is why it is also interesting - a structure that seems to be in an inconclusive state - in the process of - what? Building or decay?
