Sabaton History
Description
This intro is one of several similar intros for videos on the Sabaton History YouTube channel. Pictured on the left is Indy Neidell who hosts the series and to his right is one of the members of the metal band Sabaton, Pär Sundström (it rotates every so often which band-member is present with Pär and Joakim being the two who appear the most). This series on YouTube analyses the historical context of Sabaton's history rooted songs. As this episode "The Attack of the Dead Men – Gas Warfare on the Eastern Front – Sabaton History 051" is part of a group of videos based on World War I history, many artefacts related to World War I are present in the frame. There is an old fashioned telephone, a French infantry helmet, a Belgian flag, and a gas mask. Other items included are a Polish szabla sword, chain mail, and a knight's helmet as those are all references to other episodes of the series that delve into famous cavalry charges (charge of the Winged Hussars at Vienna in 1683) and into famous actions by knights (last stand of the Swiss Guard in Rome in 1527). The background of the frame is made to resemble military camouflage and to give off the appearance of a bunker. The rest of the video includes shots throughout this bunker and photographs of the Russian Imperial Army and German Imperial Army. The title of the video is in reference to Sabaton's song "The Attack of the Dead Men" which is about the last stand of Russian soldiers in Poland during the siege of Osowiec Fortress. Faced by the impressive resistance, German artillery would launch shells with chlorine and bromine gas to gas the Russian defenders. While many Russian soldiers would perish as they lacked gas masks and their improvised gas masks would seldom work, the surviving soldiers would sorte out of the fortress in a charge against advancing German forces and cause the Germans to retreat as the Russian soldiers were in a state of coughing up their own lungs and blood which terrified the German soldiers as they were confronted by the walking dead.
